I was able to remove the crown and stem from my to see that the quickest day date functions do operate with the stem and that the hands turn freely and are able to be set with the stem. Dial is labeled japan t. This watch balance has no play and the hair spring appears intact.

Meaning that the balance will not continuously turn. I admittedly am not a watch repair person, but I have seen watches with bad balances or broken pivots. The balance does move freely, though slowly, both left and right.
